Children Have Some Answers We Don’t

As the main teachers in our children’s lives one thing to remember is that we don’t always have all the answers. There might be times when we need to ask for advice from other parents or experts. And no one is more of an expert than someone who has lived experience. As our children become older there might be times when we need to understand better how they felt about how they were previously treated in certain situations, so we could possibly engage with them more effectively in the future.

Have you heard “You don’t know what you don’t know”? How can we truly understand how to better parent our children if we are only relying on our own experience? Not one of us has had the perfect parenting experience. Some of us were raised in what is referred to as ‘broken homes’ and we adapted based on lived experience. And most of us were raised by people who made many mistakes and learned to parent by trial and error. However, no one is immune to the mistakes of how they were raised. And some of those mistakes may have left a deeper mark on our children than we may know.
