Parents Sticking to Their Decisions
Parenting is one of the toughest jobs that you will ever have; however, it also has the biggest and longest lasting pay-off than any other job. It can be fun and exciting coming up with rewards for our children for their good behavior or for their accomplishments because we get to see the joy on their faces and even experience it with them! But coming up with punishments is not always a good time, especially when our children’s punishments affect us as parents.
I heard a story on the radio this past week that showed a prime example of parents sticking to the punishment they had decided to give to their children even though it negatively affected them as well. The two little boys, ages 5 and 7, were behaving badly one Sunday morning (and it was Easter Sunday on top of it all). The kids were throwing things, talking back to their mom, and not listening to anything she was saying to them. Finally, the mom had all she could handle and began to cry out of frustration.
