Taking a Moment for Yourself
Have you ever felt so busy that it feels like you have no time for yourself? It may not only be just staying busy, but it might also be the fact that you are trying to do so many different things with several different people that you feel exhausted. Depending on what we choose to put on our plate, we could possibly be running ourselves in exhaustion. Depending on whether you are an extrovert or an introvert, you may be able to handle it different, however, the more people and their personal situations that you put on your plate, the more you have to give physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
Sometimes we feel as though we may need to fill up our free time so that we can be there for other people. Other times we TRULY want to help others with their situations and THAT takes up our free time as well. All these circumstances are all good and well, especially with the intent behind it, but when do we have time to take a moment for ourselves? When do we get to take a moment to process the day, take some time to relax, rest and unwind and do something for ourselves?
A lot of people in our lives require a lot of attention, especially when it comes to our children. However, there is only so much of you that you can give before you begin to run dry. I say this for a reason. If you give everything you have to other people, what is left? Nothing. You have poured it out to everyone else, and there is nothing else left to give.
It is important to think of yourself as a pitcher, not a baseball pitcher, but a liquid dispensing pitcher. Each person that you want to pour into and/or serve takes a little bit of the liquid out of you. Your neighbors, your co-workers, your friends, your family, your church community, and most of all, your children. Particularly if you are a ‘people-pleaser’, you are EXTRA ‘tapped out’ within your pitcher because you are giving more of yourself and quite possibly taking more of energy and promises to give to others…
