Why Having Friends Matters

Having friends is something that many people have trouble finding, especially later in life. Some of us are blessed to have those special people who stick with us throughout the years, through the good times and the bad; however, not all of us are fortunate or are good at having effective relationships. It takes effort on our part by “sticking our neck out” to meet new friends and to see what happens organically. It also means effective communication including good listening skills and offering advice when asked for it. It means good eye contact, and an empathic nature. Some of these things come naturally to some people. Some do not and require patient practice.

One wonderful and meaningful thing about having true friends is that they are there for you when you need them. They are available for you through the good times and the bad. They see you at your worst and they don’t judge you; they understand what is driving your decisions and emotions. They support you and pull you up out of whatever it is that you are going through by loving you unconditionally, offering other options to try, and patience through the process. That love can touch you in a special way, at the right time, and help bring you out of your circumstance aiding you see the light at the end of your tunnel…
