Helping to Build More Self-Sufficient Men & Women

The other day I witnessed something interesting. A teenage boy was trying to impress a girl by riding his bike down a steep slope. As the girl was videoing the maneuver, the boy could not even begin the trip down the slope even after several failed attempts. The girl then handed the phone to the boy, got on the bike, and went down the slope on her first try. Once he saw her do it, he had to prove that he too could commit to the task.

This is one of many examples that we can use why God said, “It is not good for men to be alone”. This might be a controversial subject, but here goes.

After God created a man, he then gave him a helper, a woman, for additional daily tasks, working together as a team, learning different perspectives, as well as other tasks and elements of life. For some men, this might be their mother who aids them throughout their lives, or their wife, or a girlfriend, or close friend. Either way, many men are not as successful through life without a woman’s help. The woman was created to meant to support, encourage, love, nurture, and help the man to be all he was designed to be. But not to do everything for him.

Because men and women often think and communicate in different ways, sometimes this can be difficult for both parties. Learning what our strengths are to support each other as well as having our own boundaries will help eliminate some of our relationship struggles. We can encourage each other along the way, but with that encouragement comes a sense of ownership for accomplishing the task. Just like the girl showing the boy how to ride down the slope on the bike, he then chose to take it upon himself to do it on his own. If we continue to enable the people in our lives by doing everything for them, we are doing them a disservice. This goes for both men and women…
