Who is Your Parenting Role Model?

Have you asked your children about what they do or don’t like about your parenting style? It might be a difficult question to ask because we might be afraid of the answer, or they might not be able to articulate an answer based on their age. Respectful feedback could truly be a way for us to become more informed about our current parenting methods and where we may want to make some adjustments to be more effective.

For years we have heard people say that they want better for their children than they had when they were younger. However, that statement could mean many different things. Maybe they had to share a room with a sibling, or perhaps they had to ride to and from school on the bus and that wasn’t the ‘cool’ thing to do. Or maybe their family struggled financially, or there was addiction in the home which led to a valid amount of dysfunction and possibly abuse or neglect. The important thing to remember is that we should want to do what is best for our children, whether it is ‘cool’ or not. Most of the time parents do their best with what they have.
