“Being Rich: a State of Mind”
As a child, did you ever have big dreams of living in a fancy house with several cars to choose from, a happy spouse and at least two kids and a dog? Vacations were a ‘must’ every year and you would have a place in the mountains and at the beach to choose from at your leisure? As much fun as it is to have those big dreams, we also must understand what it takes to accomplish that level of ‘wealth’, and what responsibility comes with those dreams.
I’m sure we were all asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. The answers I’m sure have changed often based on where we are now… some of us are still trying to figure out what we want to be when we grow up. But one thing remains the same: we all want to be happy, to feel good about ourselves, about the people in our lives, and about what we are doing to make a difference in ourselves, in our family, and in the world.
Once we reach a time in our lives where we feel at peace, are thankful for what we have been blessed with, and want to share that inner peace and joy with others, then we have reached a whole new level of what it means to be rich. This type of rich can’t be taken away nor stolen easily. This type of wealth exudes from people and leaves others wanting to be more like them or know what they have that makes them so different.
Teaching our children to work hard for what we want in life is important. It’s even more important to work on who we are in life. Having a peace of mind, a grateful heart, and a loving and kind spirit are worth so much more than any item we may ever possess. It takes time, self-discipline, courage and willpower. But in the end, we have the privilege of building other people up in the process AND taking those earned attributes with us everywhere we go…
