Sometimes it’s the Little Things…
Have you ever had an “off day” when you don’t feel particularly fantastic, and then someone, possibly a stranger, gives you a compliment and it completely turns your day around for the better? Your new outlook changes your day. It has taken a 180-degree turn because someone noticed you in a positive way and took the time and effort to let you know.
In a world where you must work hard every day, taking care of obligations, appointments, and requirements, sometimes you can feel lost in the day-to-day schedule. But when someone takes the time to notice something about you, it takes you out of that “let’s get to the next thing on my list” mindset and gives you a moment to appreciate yourself. You did something well enough for someone else to let you know about it! It brings a smile to your face and makes you to mentally give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done!
Whether we realize it or not, we all want to be noticed and appreciated for the work that we do. It is what keeps us moving forward and proud of our personal efforts to do a good job. When other people notice the positive aspects of what we are doing, it makes us want to do those things even more.
Children and grandchildren are very much the same. They constantly want to be noticed by you, appreciated by you, and crave your attention because they desperately want your approval. Having your full attention on them may not seem like a big deal to you, but it can mean the world to them. First of all, you’re a grown-up; and not just any grown-up. You’re their FAVORITE grown-up and what you think of them matters more than you realize. Your high five with them, your video recording of them, and words of praise for either what they did or who they are might as well be a trophy in your child or grandchild’s eyes…
